Happy Hol-Lean-Days tip no. 6 – something is better than nothing! Photo by the amazing Tom Miles to show you how I made the most of the 30 minutes I had spare today and got my exercise for the day in. As we head into Christmas week I appreciate time is at a premium – chances are you may still be at work and on top of this there’s last minute shopping and wrapping to be done, family to visit, friends to see…. So how on earth are you going to fit your workouts in as well?
Plan ahead and make the most of the time you have. Even 15 minutes of activity is enough to raise your heart rate, work your muscles and make a difference. Today I have Christmas lunch with my in laws and so I knew it was going to be a day of eating and drinking, and chances are being pretty inactive. But rather than just write it off I decided to set my alarm 30 minutes earlier, put on my trainers and go for a run. 25 minutes later I had clocked up almost 5k and revved up my metabolism for the rest of the day. It wasn’t the longest or toughest run I’ve ever had, but it’s enough to keep me active and keep the festive weight gain at bay – and it hasn’t impacted on my day of family fun. So rather than look at your schedule this week and decide you “haven’t got time” to exercise, why not work out when you can spare half an hour to get moving? A run, a swim, a body weight circuit at home, a YouTube pilates video… It all counts and it all makes a difference. Just get up and get it done!
