Social Media vs Reality – round one…

November 4, 2015 by Lisa Jane

A friend mentioned today that they hadn’t seen me post much on my Instagram this week, and in light of the very recent social media controversy about online life versus reality I thought I would share my current reality with you all to prove that I too am an honest, real person not trying to sugar coat my perfect life, perfect meals and perfect abs (and can I just say for the record I don’t believe I have any of the aforementioned!)

I have actually been hiding this week as on Monday I was diagnosed with with a bacterial eye infection, which is not only instantly visible as soon as you look at me, but also painful and unpleasant. Until it is clear I can’t wear any make-up, and whilst this sounds like a small thing, my make up really is my mask and I never face the world without it. So to have to see my clients and teach my classes as normal this week has been really hard for me as I feel so self-conscious and so unattractive. This makes me sound so vain I know, and the truth is I know I am – which is why I’ve not been posting selfies or self indulgent status updates this week because I feel unattractive and unsociable and to be honest not “social media worthy”.

Simply supplemental?

September 14, 2015 by wildcatfitness

Something you cannot fail to have noticed when in any health food shop, supermarket, pharmacy and indeed even browsing the pages of fitness magazines and health accounts on Instagram is the vast array of supplements both available to us and seemingly taken by many people pursuing a healthy, fit lifestyle. But with such a phenomenal (and quite frankly confusing) amount of choice when it comes to vitamins, nutrients, and more specific lifestyle support supplements it can be hard to choose not only what’s right, but also what’s safe for you. So when I came across Inner Me “Nutrition Tailored for You” I was curious to find out what made their range of vitamins and supplements different from the myriad of others available to us.

But why supplement in the first place? If we eat well and exercise aren’t we doing enough for our bodies to keep them healthy?

The great age debate….

July 28, 2015 by wildcatfitness

I know these photos have been posted a lot on social media this week, but J Lo looks INCREDIBLE right? And is your first thought when you look at this “Wow she looks amazing”? Or is it “wow she looks amazing for 46”? Wouldn’t you be happy with this body at ANY age? Because I don’t see photos posted of, say, Kylie Jenner with captions like “wow she looks amazing for 20” (or however old she is before anyone pulls me up on this!) It really upsets me when people focus on a woman’s age – yes J Lo looks insane but why do we even need to bring up the fact that she’s in her 40s? Do you ever see people banging on about how fabulous George Clooney looks for 50-odd? No, because it doesn’t matter!

The cellulite solution?

March 12, 2015 by wildcatfitness

As you may have seen on my Facebook page and Instagram profile, last month I was invited by the makers of Figurite to trial their brand new anti-cellulite package of products for 28 days to see if it would reduce the appearance of my cellulite.

Cellulite is often seen as a dirty word, and something that isn’t spoken about by fitness professionals or fitness models – after all, who wants to admit to the dreaded orange peel?! It can also be associated with carrying excess weight, whereas in fact weight/size has nothing to do with cellulite – someone who is a size 6 is just as likely to suffer from it as someone who is size 26. It can be caused by hormones, genetics and lifestyle factors (e.g. those who are seated for long periods of time), as well as being linked to poor diet and lack of exercise. Personally I have always been extremely conscious of and embarrassed by my cellulite – after all, as someone who works out usually 6 times a week, eats clean and drinks plenty of water I shouldn’t really be suffering from it, right? And what message does it give to my clients that I am too scared to wear shorts in the gym in case anyone sees the dimples on the backs of my thighs?
