As a regular reader of my Blog, or follower of mine on social media, I hope it would seem apparent that my fitness journey is one in the name of self improvement and that my ethos behind setting up a Personal Training business is to help people become the best possible versions of themselves. But as well as the physical, what about the personal? Do you ever stop and think: I wonder if I could try to be not only a better person, but a kinder person too? As well as looking and feeling fantastic, wouldn’t it be amazing to know that one act at a time you could be helping, supporting or even showing others their true value? This is a concept that hugely appeals to me – as much as I love my City, London can also be a cruel, rude and unforgiving place. So when Kind Snacks approached me about taking part in their 2016 Kind Challenge to help make London a kinder place one healthy snack at a time, there was no way I could refuse.
When you think of comforting, warming Winter desserts one dish comes to mind immediately – the traditional British Crumble! Whilst a regular version may pack a huge sugar punch, not to mention all that fat from the butter and custard, I’ve come up with a lighter, nutritious version, best enjoyed snuggled up on the sofa with the cold wind howling outside….
Burger and chips – surely one of the ultimate cheat meals? Well definitely pretty sinful with the oil, mayo, cheese, sauces….. so how can we give this classic indulgence a healthy makeover? Well I tried – and these are the results – so let me know what you think!
Nut Butter squares
I know how it goes – mid afternoon, a couple of hours since lunch and a few hours until dinner time…. but what to have? Don’t get caught out and end up with a nutritionally devoid shop-bought muffin or a “healthy” packaged cereal bar that actually has more sugar than a can of full fat Coke…… make your own healthy snacks and take them with you! These are so quick to make and should give you enough snacking options for a week with one batch. So make on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy Monday – Friday guilt free!
Lighter Strawberry cheesecake
Pursuing a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to mean boring, bland mealtimes missing out on all your favourite treats. Here’s a way to enjoy cheesecake without the huge fat and sugar content of shop-bought or restaurant versions. Each cheesecake contains just over 200 calories and a whopping 12g of protein!
Something I hear often from clients is that they don’t have the time to prepare and cook meals from scratch every night. Well how about a meal that takes 15 minutes, and that could last you for lunch and dinner for the next 2 days? Worth 15 minutes wouldn’t you say? Ladies and Gentlemen I give to you the asparagus, pea and spring onion frittata!
